EMS
Mecklenburg County Solid Waste utilizes an Environmental Management System (EMS) to plan, implement, assess, and continually improve its environmental practices in its operations. The EMS reflects the Solid Waste Division’s commitment to the achievement and maintenance of regulatory compliance, the prevention of pollution, and the continual improvement of its environmental management practices. The EMS also requires the establishment of appropriate goals for environmental performance that can be supported and achieved by the Solid Waste Division, in balance with its public responsibilities, its commitment to providing high quality, low-cost solid waste disposal services to the rate paying public and its other management objectives.  The EMS also includes Standard Environmental Operation Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures and lists of the compliance obligations and permits for the Solid Waste Division. The NCDEQ Environmental Stewardship Initiative has recognized Mecklenburg County Solid Waste as a Steward with their member program. The NCDEQ ESI Team certifies our EMS each year with an Functional Equivalent audit that is based on the ISO14001 Environmental Management System Standard.
